Better Understanding the Salmons of the Ourthe River (2015-05-07)

In collaboration with the Fisheries Department, a simplified version of the Ichtyos Counter is currently being tested in Belgium to detect and record videos of Atlantic salmon smolts during their downstream migration in the Ourthe river. The river is 50 meters wide, but the device acts as a giant funnel that forces the fish to swim in front of an integrated underwater camera. Data collected will allow to better understand the migratory behavior of salmon without any catch or interference. The first results are very positive and many individuals have already shown us their best profile!
